The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to immediately remove his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, over allegations linking him to the controversy surrounding the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC). In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the party said suspending Gbajabiamila was necessary to allow for what it described as a transparent and impartial investigation into the allegations.
The NDC questioned how the alleged PFIPC, which the Presidency insists does not exist, could reportedly receive budgetary allocations, open multiple accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria, and allegedly secure approval for 314 staff positions. The party also referenced claims made by Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, who identified himself as the council’s Director-General, alleging financial inducements, irregular appointments, and other acts of corruption. The NDC urged anti-graft agencies, including the EFCC, ICPC, and the Nigeria Police Force, to investigate all aspects of the allegations, including the reported death of an intermediary and alleged attempts on Adeyemi’s life.
The Presidency has, however, firmly rejected the allegations, maintaining that the PFIPC is not a recognised government agency. Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga previously stated that investigations found Adeyemi allegedly forged appointment documents, impersonated government officials, and operated a fictitious agency, leading to criminal charges against him. The government insists the allegations against Gbajabiamila are unfounded, while the NDC maintains that only an independent investigation can establish the full facts surrounding the controversy.
