Former Benue State Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor David Salifu, has been killed after gunmen ambushed his vehicle along the Makurdi–Naka Road on Friday. According to reports, the attackers opened fire on his vehicle, leaving the former top government official with severe gunshot injuries. He was rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment but later died from his wounds.
Professor Salifu served as Secretary to the Benue State Government during the administration of former Governor Samuel Ortom and was widely regarded as an experienced public administrator and academic. His killing has sparked renewed concerns over the worsening security situation in parts of Benue State, where communities continue to face frequent attacks by armed groups and criminal elements.
Security agencies have launched investigations into the attack and are working to identify and apprehend those responsible. Political leaders and residents have condemned the killing, calling for intensified efforts to tackle insecurity and protect lives across the state.
