World Bank Approves $1.25 Billion Support Package for Nigeria to Drive Jobs, Investment and Economic Growth
\n\nNigeria is set to receive a major economic boost after the World Bank approved a $1.25 billion financing package as part of a new Country Partnership Framework designed to support the nation’s development agenda between 2026 and 2032. The funding is expected to play a significant role in stimulating economic growth, encouraging private sector investment, creating employment opportunities, and improving access to critical infrastructure across the country.

According to the World Bank, the initiative is focused on helping Nigeria unlock its economic potential by investing in sectors capable of generating long-term prosperity. These include electricity, agriculture, digital technology, healthcare, education, and social protection programmes. Officials say strengthening these sectors will improve productivity, enhance living standards, and create a more resilient economy.

The development comes at a time when Nigeria is implementing wide-ranging economic reforms aimed at stabilising public finances, attracting foreign investment, and reducing dependence on oil revenues. While recent reforms have drawn mixed reactions due to rising living costs and inflationary pressures, international financial institutions continue to express optimism about the country’s long-term prospects if reforms are sustained.

The World Bank noted that greater private sector participation remains essential to creating millions of jobs needed for Nigeria’s rapidly growing population. By expanding access to reliable electricity, improving digital connectivity, and supporting agricultural productivity, the programme seeks to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.

Economic analysts believe the funding could strengthen investor confidence and accelerate infrastructure development if properly managed. However, they have also stressed the importance of transparency, accountability, and effective implementation to ensure the benefits reach ordinary Nigerians.

As Africa’s largest economy by population, Nigeria continues to seek partnerships with global development institutions to address unemployment, improve infrastructure, and promote inclusive economic growth. Many observers see the latest World Bank support as another opportunity for the country to strengthen its economic foundations while positioning itself for sustainable development over the next decade.
