A socio-political group, Ogun West Concerned Stakeholders, has challenged the governorship ambition of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), arguing that he is not an indigene of Ogun West and should not be considered for the state’s 2027 governorship race. Speaking at a stakeholders’ forum in Ilaro, the group insisted that only aspirants with verifiable indigenous roots and a long-standing record of service to Ogun State should succeed Governor Dapo Abiodun. The stakeholders also accused Adeola of failing to support previous Ogun West governorship aspirations in the 2019 and 2023 elections.
The group declared its support for Ladi Adebutu, describing him as a true indigene of Ogun State with a better understanding of the state’s needs. Its spokesperson, Adetunji Adedeji, alleged that Senator Adeola worked against Ogun West’s political interests during previous elections and questioned his historical ties to the region. The stakeholders maintained that his governorship bid does not reflect the aspirations of many people in Ogun West.
Responding to the allegations, Senator Adeola’s Special Adviser on Media, Kayode Odunaro, dismissed the group as faceless and described the indigeneship controversy as a settled matter. Adeola, who represented Lagos West in the Senate before winning election as senator for Ogun West in 2023, has consistently maintained that he is from Ilaro in Yewa South Local Government Area. He has also identified himself as a bona fide son of Egbaland through his maternal lineage, insisting that his roots and connection to Ogun State are well established.
