Former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has been arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu while attempting to board a private jet bound for Abuja. Security sources said the arrest was carried out following a request from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), which is investigating allegations linked to certificate forgery and other matters connected to his time in office.
According to reports, Nnaji was subsequently handed over to the ICPC for further questioning as part of its ongoing investigation. The arrest comes weeks after a Federal High Court reportedly issued a warrant for his arrest over allegations that he submitted forged academic and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificates during his ministerial confirmation process. Nnaji has consistently denied the allegations, describing them as politically motivated, and has challenged the court’s decision through legal proceedings.
Neither the DSS nor the ICPC had issued an official detailed statement on the arrest at the time of reporting. The development is expected to intensify scrutiny of the former minister as investigators continue to examine the allegations, with legal proceedings likely to determine the next phase of the case.
