President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved 27 major road projects valued at more than ₦3.9 trillion across 15 states as part of the Federal Government’s ongoing infrastructure expansion programme. The approval was announced by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, who said the projects are aimed at improving connectivity, boosting economic activity, and easing transportation challenges nationwide.
The projects span Adamawa, Benue, Cross River, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Niger, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba, and Yobe states. Among the most significant approvals is the re-award of a 409-kilometre dual carriageway project in Niger State, valued at approximately ₦1.8 trillion under the tax-credit scheme.
Other strategic projects included in the approval package are key sections of the ongoing Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, and major federal road corridors intended to enhance trade and movement between different regions of the country.
According to the Federal Government, the investment is expected to stimulate economic growth, create jobs, reduce travel time, and improve access to markets for businesses and agricultural producers. The projects form part of a broader national infrastructure strategy focused on upgrading Nigeria’s road network and supporting long-term development.
The approvals come amid increased government spending on transportation infrastructure, with officials arguing that improved roads are essential for attracting investment, lowering logistics costs, and strengthening regional integration across the country.
