A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore a fresh bail of ₦200 million after revoking his earlier bail over his failure to appear in court for trial proceedings. Justice Mohammed Umar delivered the ruling on Tuesday, restoring Sowore’s bail subject to strict conditions.
Under the new bail terms, Sowore must provide two sureties. One of the sureties must be a traditional ruler from his community in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State, while the second must own landed property within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. The court also ordered compliance with other conditions attached to the bail arrangement.
The fresh bail follows legal arguments by Sowore’s counsel seeking the restoration of his earlier bail and the setting aside of a bench warrant that had been issued against him. The court had previously fixed June 30, 2026, to rule on the application after hearing submissions from both the defence and prosecution.
Sowore is currently facing charges related to alleged cybercrime and criminal defamation, allegations he has consistently denied. The case remains before the Federal High Court, with further proceedings expected as the trial continues.
