A vice principal who was among those rescued following a terrorist attack in Borno State has revealed that timely intervention by military aircraft played a crucial role in their escape from captivity. The educator said the sound and presence of military air platforms disrupted the terrorists’ movements, creating confusion and giving abducted victims an opportunity to flee before being rescued by troops.
According to the vice principal, the abductors were transporting their captives through a remote area when military aircraft appeared overhead. The terrorists reportedly scattered in different directions to avoid possible airstrikes, allowing some of the victims to break away and seek safety. He described the experience as terrifying but said the military response ultimately saved their lives.
The rescue operation involved ground troops supported by air assets providing surveillance and operational guidance. Military personnel later made contact with the abductors around the Daggu area and successfully rescued ten victims unharmed. Security officials said the coordinated land-and-air operation was instrumental in ensuring the safe recovery of the captives.
The incident highlights the growing role of joint military operations in counterterrorism efforts across northeastern Nigeria. Security forces have recently intensified pressure on terrorist groups operating in Borno State through a combination of ground offensives, intelligence gathering, and air support, leading to a number of successful rescue missions and disruptions of terrorist activities.
