At least eight people have been confirmed dead, while 17 others sustained varying degrees of injuries following a tragic road accident in Katsina State. The crash occurred along the Katsina–Kankia Road and involved a commercial passenger bus and a trailer, according to officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). Rescue teams were immediately deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call and worked alongside other emergency responders to assist victims.

The FRSC said a total of 26 people were involved in the collision. Seventeen passengers suffered injuries ranging from fractures and broken limbs to severe cuts, while those critically injured were evacuated to medical facilities for urgent treatment. Authorities noted that the impact of the collision was severe, contributing to the high casualty figure.

Reports indicated that some victims were trapped in the wreckage, and the situation worsened when the commercial vehicle caught fire shortly after the collision. Emergency responders managed to rescue survivors and transport them to hospital, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the mortuary. Investigators are working to determine the exact cause of the accident, though road safety officials have repeatedly warned motorists against speeding and dangerous driving practices.

The FRSC expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery. The incident adds to growing concerns over road safety in Nigeria, where crashes involving commercial vehicles and heavy-duty trucks continue to claim lives despite ongoing enforcement and public awareness campaigns.
