The Nigerian Army has carried out a major reshuffle of its senior leadership, with new appointments affecting operational commands, military institutions, and strategic headquarters positions across the country. The redeployment, approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, is aimed at strengthening national security, improving operational effectiveness, and enhancing the Army’s capacity to tackle emerging security threats.
Among the key changes, Major General W.M. Dangana has been appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, while Major General E.I. Okoro takes over as GOC 6 Division and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force Operation Delta Safe. Major General J.R. Lar was named Commander of Army Headquarters Garrison, and Brigadier General O.M. Oyekola was appointed Acting Military Secretary (Army). Brigadier General I. Waziri retained his role as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff.
The Army also announced appointments aimed at boosting combat readiness and addressing modern security challenges. Brigadier General I.B. Buhari will now command Headquarters 63 Brigade, while Brigadier General K. Rabiu takes charge of Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade. In a notable move reflecting the military’s growing focus on technology-driven warfare, Major General S.A. Emmanuel was appointed Commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command. Major General O. Adegbe was also named Director of Intelligence and Security at Defence Headquarters.
Several military training and educational institutions were affected by the reshuffle. Major General K.E. Chigbu was appointed Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College, Major General S.D. Makolo became Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armour School, and Major General S.O. Adejimi was named Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport. Additionally, Major General F.S. Etim was appointed Chief of Training at TRADOC, while Brigadier General U. Ahmad became Commandant of Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria. The Army said the appointments are part of its ongoing transformation drive to build a more professional, combat-ready, and technologically advanced force capable of addressing current and future security challenges.
