Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar, has described the recent court ruling affecting the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as evidence of what he called President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “true colours.” Atiku alleged that ongoing efforts to weaken or deregister opposition platforms reflect a broader attempt to undermine democratic competition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued after the judgment, Atiku claimed that the move against the NDC was part of a coordinated strategy to weaken opposition forces and steer Nigeria toward a one-party political system.
