Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have killed two suspected kidnappers and recovered ₦2.2 million believed to be proceeds from ransom payments during a security operation aimed at dismantling criminal networks in the state. The operation was carried out following intelligence reports on the activities of a gang linked to a series of abductions and extortion cases in parts of Ogun and neighbouring communities.
According to police authorities, the suspects engaged security operatives in a gun battle when officers moved in to arrest them. The confrontation resulted in the deaths of the two suspected kidnappers, while other gang members reportedly escaped with gunshot injuries. During a search of the area, officers recovered ₦2.2 million suspected to be part of ransom payments collected from victims and their families. Additional exhibits, including weapons and other incriminating items, were also recovered during the operation.
The Ogun State Police Command described the operation as a major breakthrough in its campaign against kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes. Investigators are currently analysing intelligence obtained from the operation to track down fleeing gang members and uncover possible links to other criminal activities within and outside the state. Authorities also stated that efforts are ongoing to identify victims connected to the recovered ransom money and strengthen investigations into the syndicate’s operations.
The development comes amid intensified security operations across several parts of Nigeria as law enforcement agencies continue efforts to combat kidnapping and banditry. Security experts have repeatedly stressed the importance of intelligence-led operations, inter-agency cooperation, and community support in tackling organised criminal groups.
