The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the alleged murder and robbery of a resident of Gwaram Town in Alkaleri Local Government Area, marking a significant breakthrough in an investigation that began several months ago.
The suspects were apprehended by operatives of the command following an intensive investigation into a case of culpable homicide and suspected armed robbery reported at the Alkaleri Divisional Police Headquarters on March 7, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Nafiu Habib, the first suspect, Muhammad Umar, popularly known as “Jijji,” was arrested on June 19 while allegedly in possession of a motorcycle belonging to the deceased victim.
Police investigators said the recovery of the motorcycle provided a crucial lead that ultimately resulted in further arrests linked to the case.
During interrogation, Umar reportedly confessed to involvement in the crime and identified two other individuals he alleged participated in the operation. Acting on the information, detectives launched a follow-up operation that led to the arrest of Usman M. Gidado, 45, and Danladi Yakubu, also known as “Pagaj,” aged 35.
The police disclosed that all three suspects are residents of Gwaram Town, the same community where the offence was allegedly committed.
Authorities confirmed that the victim’s motorcycle was successfully recovered during the operation and has been secured as an exhibit for the ongoing investigation.
Following their arrest, the suspects and the recovered motorcycle were transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Bauchi for further questioning and detailed investigation.
The command stated that investigators are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and gather additional evidence before prosecuting the suspects.
SP Habib noted that upon conclusion of the investigation, the suspects would be charged to court to face appropriate legal action.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the officers involved in the operation for their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to justice.
He reiterated the command’s determination to tackle violent crimes across the state and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.
The commissioner also reassured residents that the police remain vigilant in safeguarding lives and property, stressing that criminal elements would continue to face sustained pressure from security agencies.
The latest arrests underscore ongoing efforts by the Bauchi State Police Command to strengthen security, combat violent crime, and provide justice for victims and their families across the state.
