Police, Oyo LG Dismiss Reports of Kidnap Victims’ Release After Igboho’s Ultimatum
\n\nThe Oyo State Police Command and Oorelope Local Government have denied reports that victims abducted in Igbope community have been released following an ultimatum issued by Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Igboho. The claims emerged after a viral video showed residents celebrating alongside Igboho, with many believing the kidnapped woman, her children, and a sibling had regained freedom.

However, Oorelope Local Government Chairman, Jacob Ogundiran, described the reports as false and misleading, stressing that the victims remain in captivity. He assured residents that security agencies are intensifying efforts to secure their safe release and urged the public to rely only on verified information.

Similarly, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, dismissed claims that the victims had been rescued or that Igboho played any role in their release. He noted that security operatives are still working to rescue the abductees and clarified that the kidnapping occurred in Igbope, not Igboho town.

The victims were abducted during a midnight attack on their family home, with the kidnappers reportedly demanding an initial ransom of N300 million before reducing it to N150 million. Authorities have continued efforts to secure their freedom while urging residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.
