The Anambra State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers during a security operation aimed at tackling violent crime across the state. The suspects were apprehended by operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad following intelligence reports linking them to a series of robbery incidents in parts of Anambra. Police authorities said the operation led to the recovery of firearms, ammunition, and other items believed to have been used in criminal activities.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects were arrested after security operatives intercepted them during a coordinated patrol and stop-and-search operation. Recovered exhibits reportedly include locally made pistols, live cartridges, and other incriminating materials. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects may be members of a robbery syndicate that had been operating in parts of the state, targeting residents and commuters. The police said the arrests were made possible through actionable intelligence and increased surveillance in crime-prone areas.
The command disclosed that the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation and assisting investigators with information that could lead to the arrest of other members of the gang. Authorities also indicated that efforts are ongoing to determine whether the suspects have links to other criminal networks involved in kidnapping, cultism, and armed attacks within and outside Anambra State. The recovered weapons have been taken into police custody for forensic examination as part of the investigation.
The arrests form part of the Anambra State Police Command’s broader campaign against violent crime and insecurity.
