Voting in the by-election for the Zuru State Constituency seat in the Kebbi State House of Assembly concluded peacefully on Saturday, with the Independent National Electoral Commission commencing the collation of results across the constituency. The election was conducted in all 200 polling units within Zuru Local Government Area, while party agents, election observers, journalists, and supporters gathered at designated collation centres awaiting the official declaration of results.
Reports from across the constituency indicated that the exercise was largely orderly and free from major security incidents. Security personnel were deployed to polling units and strategic locations throughout the area, helping to maintain a calm atmosphere during voting. Although voter turnout remained relatively low in several polling centres, residents were able to cast their ballots without disruption, and normal commercial activities continued in parts of Zuru town during the election.
Speaking after voting at Mango Waje Polling Unit, Kebbi APC Chairman, Abubakar Kana Zuru, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election, noting that turnout was expected to improve as the day progressed despite rainfall in some areas. Similarly, the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Salihu Dangoje, commended the participation of women voters, describing their involvement as encouraging for democratic engagement within the constituency.
The by-election was organised to fill the vacant Zuru State Constituency seat following the death of the lawmaker who previously represented the constituency. Prior to the poll, INEC confirmed that only the APC and Labour Party met the requirements to participate in the election. With voting now completed and no significant disturbances recorded, attention has shifted to the collation process, which will determine the winner of the closely watched contest.
