The Independent National Electoral Commission has uploaded 35.5 percent of polling unit results from the ongoing Ekiti State governorship election to its Result Viewing Portal (IReV), providing voters and stakeholders with real-time access to election outcomes as collation continues across the state. The update was recorded at about 6:12 p.m. on Saturday, reflecting the commission’s efforts to enhance transparency in the electoral process.
According to INEC, results from hundreds of polling units had already been transmitted to the portal while election officials continued the collation exercise in the state’s 16 local government areas. Fourteen candidates are contesting the off-cycle governorship election, with incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the APC seeking a second term in office. Major contenders also include candidates from the PDP, ADC, Labour Party, NNPP, and several other political parties.
As the evening progressed, the pace of result uploads increased significantly. INEC later confirmed that 2,048 of the state’s 2,445 polling unit results had been uploaded to the IReV portal, representing about 83.7 percent of the total expected results. The rapid increase demonstrated the commission’s electronic transmission system and allowed political parties, observers, and voters to independently monitor the progress of the election.
The Ekiti governorship election is one of Nigeria’s key off-cycle polls ahead of the 2027 general elections and is being closely watched by political stakeholders nationwide.
