The Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory, CP Ahmed Sanusi, has reportedly issued a two-week ultimatum to 17 Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) across Abuja to significantly reduce incidents of armed robbery, kidnapping, “one chance” attacks, and other violent crimes within their jurisdictions. The directive forms part of a broader effort by the FCT Police Command to strengthen security and improve public safety in the nation’s capital.
According to the report, the police leadership expressed concern over persistent criminal activities in parts of the FCT and emphasized that divisional commanders would be held accountable for security developments in their respective areas. The deadline is intended to increase operational efficiency, intelligence gathering, community policing, and rapid response to criminal threats. Officers have reportedly been directed to intensify patrols, raids on criminal hideouts, and surveillance operations.
The move comes amid recent security operations by the FCT Police Command, including anti-kidnapping missions, rescue operations, arrests of suspected robbers and “one chance” operators, and the launch of specialized units aimed at combating violent crimes. Security agencies have also increased collaboration with local vigilantes and community stakeholders to improve intelligence sharing and crime prevention.
Residents have been urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities and providing credible information that could aid investigations. Police authorities maintain that public participation remains essential in the fight against crime and have assured residents that additional measures are being implemented to make Abuja safer. The performance of the affected DPOs is expected to be reviewed after the two-week period as the command evaluates the effectiveness of the renewed security push.
