Opposition members of the House of Representatives have strongly criticized the administration of President Bola Tinubu, alleging that worsening insecurity, rising economic hardship, and growing pressure on democratic institutions have continued despite repeated government assurances. Speaking through the Minority Caucus, the lawmakers argued that many Nigerians are struggling with high food prices, transportation costs, inflation, kidnappings, banditry, and other security challenges while political actors have increasingly shifted attention toward preparations for the 2027 elections.
The caucus stated that three years into the current administration, citizens expected more visible improvements in security and living conditions. According to the lawmakers, persistent attacks by armed groups, kidnappings, and violent crimes across several parts of the country have raised concerns about the effectiveness of existing security measures. They also expressed worries over the economic situation, saying many households continue to face severe financial pressure amid rising costs of essential goods and services.
During the briefing, opposition legislators urged the Federal Government to focus more on addressing the country’s pressing challenges rather than engaging in early political calculations ahead of the next general election. They called for stronger security interventions, economic relief measures, and policies aimed at improving citizens’ welfare. The caucus maintained that elected officials have a responsibility to prioritize governance and public well-being above partisan interests.
