\n\nThe Ogun State Government has banned graduation ceremonies and end-of-session parties in all public and private schools across the state, citing concerns over the financial burden imposed on parents and guardians.
In a circular issued by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, school administrators were directed to immediately stop organizing such events. The government said some schools had been forcing parents to pay various fees under the guise of graduation and end-of-session celebrations, a practice it described as exploitative.
Authorities noted that the directive aligns with resolutions reached during the 2025/2026 stakeholders’ meeting and warned that any school found violating the order would face sanctions. Schools have also been instructed to communicate the directive to parents, teachers, and other stakeholders.
The move comes as schools approach the end of the 2025/2026 academic session and follows earlier restrictions on graduation ceremonies for nursery and kindergarten pupils. Similar measures have been adopted in several other states to reduce financial pressure on families and curb excessive charges by school operators.
