Suspected bandits have killed four farmers and kidnapped at least 12 others in an attack on farmlands in Ghandi District, Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The attack reportedly occurred on Tuesday morning while farmers were working on their farms located on the outskirts of the community. Residents said the armed attackers stormed the area and opened fire on the farmers, killing four people and injuring another before taking away several victims.

A resident, Ibrahim Umar Ghandi, said the incident happened near a farmland he had stopped cultivating due to repeated security threats in the area. He explained that some relatives had sought his permission to use the land before the attackers invaded.

Another resident, Muhammed Sani, said the attack may have occurred around 9 a.m. but was discovered later, adding that residents in eastern Sokoto continue to live in fear due to frequent attacks.

A member of the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps, who spoke anonymously, confirmed that security personnel who visited the scene identified 12 abducted victims, four people killed, and one person injured.

The Sokoto State Police Command said it was yet to receive details of the incident but promised to contact the relevant division for more information.

The attack adds to growing security concerns in parts of eastern Sokoto, where communities in Rabah, Sabon Birni, Isa and Goronyo local government areas have continued to face banditry, kidnappings and other violent crimes despite ongoing security operations.
