The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of a 33-year-old woman whose lifeless body was discovered in a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area. Police authorities said the arrests followed months of investigation, intelligence gathering, and digital forensic analysis that helped detectives unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing.
According to the police, the case began on March 13, 2026, when the victim’s mother reported her missing at the Oraifite Divisional Police Headquarters. The following day, an unidentified female corpse was found inside a culvert in the community before the victim’s father later confirmed it was his missing daughter. Investigators subsequently transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka, where detectives launched a detailed probe that eventually led to the arrest of two male suspects, aged 26 and 20, on June 6.
Police spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga disclosed that the principal suspect allegedly confessed to the crime during interrogation. He reportedly told investigators that he had been in a relationship with the deceased for about three years and claimed that a disagreement involving the woman’s husband led him to develop resentment. The suspect allegedly lured the victim to his residence under the pretext of seeking assistance because he was ill. Upon her arrival, he and his accomplice allegedly attacked her with a machete, resulting in her death.
The suspects are also accused of disposing of the victim’s body in the culvert during the early hours of the following day in an attempt to conceal the crime. Police said both men have confessed to their roles in the killing and will be charged in court once investigations are completed. Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu commended the detectives involved in the case and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims of violent crimes across the state.
