Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has called on Nigerians to use the occasion of Democracy Day to strengthen national unity, promote peaceful coexistence, and work collectively toward building a more prosperous and inclusive nation. In her Democracy Day message, the Kogi Central lawmaker emphasized that the progress of Nigeria depends on the ability of citizens to rise above ethnic, religious, and political differences in pursuit of shared national goals.

The senator noted that Democracy Day provides an opportunity for reflection on the sacrifices made by past and present champions of democratic governance. She urged Nigerians to remain committed to the principles of justice, accountability, equality, and the rule of law, stressing that democracy can only thrive when citizens actively participate in governance and hold leaders accountable. According to her, national development requires collaboration between government institutions, civil society groups, and ordinary citizens.

Akpoti-Uduaghan also highlighted the need for greater social and economic inclusion, particularly for women, youths, and marginalized communities. She argued that sustainable democracy must create opportunities for all citizens to contribute meaningfully to national growth and decision-making processes. The senator further encouraged young Nigerians to remain engaged in civic activities and democratic institutions, describing them as critical stakeholders in the country’s future.

Her remarks come as Nigeria marks another Democracy Day amid ongoing discussions about governance reforms, economic challenges, security concerns, and preparations for the 2027 general elections. Political leaders across party lines have used the occasion to call for unity and national renewal, while reaffirming commitments to democratic values. Akpoti-Uduaghan expressed optimism that Nigeria can overcome its challenges through dialogue, mutual respect, and a collective determination to build a stronger and more cohesive nation.
