Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has strongly condemned a series of violent attacks that occurred across parts of the state, accusing political thugs of orchestrating coordinated assaults in communities including Ile-Ife, Ede, and Osogbo. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the governor described the incidents as a dangerous threat to peace and democracy, stressing that no political ambition should come at the cost of innocent lives and public safety.
Adeleke called on President Bola Tinubu, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu, the Department of State Services, and other security agencies to intervene immediately and prevent further escalation of violence. The governor also urged former Osun governor Gboyega Oyetola and APC governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji to caution their supporters, warning that continued provocations could plunge the state into chaos ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
According to Adeleke, he personally visited several affected communities and met victims receiving treatment at hospitals in Osogbo and Ede. He also paid a solidarity visit to the Osogbo chairman of the Accord Party, who reportedly survived a recent gun attack. The governor assured residents that security agencies had been directed to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that everyone involved in the attacks is prosecuted, regardless of political affiliation or status.
The latest violence comes amid heightened political tensions in Osun State ahead of the August 2026 governorship election, where Adeleke is seeking re-election against a strong opposition challenge. Political observers have expressed concern that the increasing hostility between rival political camps could further inflame tensions if not quickly addressed. Adeleke appealed to residents to remain calm and law-abiding, adding that additional security measures have already been deployed to vulnerable areas to safeguard lives and property across the state.
