President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to see the fight against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of violent crime as a shared national responsibility rather than a task reserved solely for the military and security agencies. Speaking amid growing security concerns across the country, the President praised members of the Armed Forces and other security personnel for their courage and sacrifices, while urging citizens to actively support ongoing operations by providing credible and timely intelligence.
According to Tinubu, security challenges can only be effectively addressed when citizens work closely with law enforcement agencies. He stressed that public vigilance remains a critical tool in disrupting criminal networks, urging Nigerians to report suspicious activities whenever they arise. The President reiterated the familiar security message, “When you see something, say something. When you know something, report it,” noting that valuable information from communities often plays a decisive role in preventing attacks and rescuing victims.
The President’s remarks come at a time when the country is grappling with a series of high-profile attacks, including the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo and Borno states, as well as increasing incidents of banditry and kidnapping in several regions. The Federal Government has maintained that intelligence-driven operations are ongoing to dismantle terrorist networks and secure the release of those still in captivity. Information and National Orientation Minister Mohammed Idris recently described the attacks on schools as an assault on Nigeria’s future, calling for greater national unity against violent extremism.
Tinubu also reaffirmed his administration’s determination to ensure that criminal groups do not undermine the country’s stability or democratic values. He assured Nigerians that the government would continue investing in security reforms, intelligence gathering, and stronger collaboration between security agencies and local communities. Analysts believe the latest appeal reflects a broader strategy that combines military action with community participation, recognising that public cooperation is essential to tackling the evolving security threats facing the nation.
