The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested 48 suspected drug traffickers and recovered 541.47 kilograms of illicit substances during a series of operations conducted across Edo State. The arrests were carried out as part of intensified efforts by the agency to dismantle drug trafficking networks and curb the growing circulation of narcotics within the state and beyond. The operation targeted several identified hotspots, including locations believed to be major centres for the storage, distribution, and sale of illegal drugs.
According to NDLEA officials, the seizures included substantial quantities of cannabis, methamphetamine, tramadol, and other prohibited substances. The agency disclosed that intelligence gathering, surveillance activities, and coordinated raids by operatives contributed to the successful arrests and recovery of the drugs. Authorities noted that some of the suspects were allegedly involved in organised trafficking operations supplying narcotics to different parts of Nigeria, while others were linked to local distribution networks.
The agency further stated that investigations are ongoing to identify additional members of the syndicates and trace the sources of the seized drugs. Several exhibits recovered during the operations have been documented for prosecution, while the suspects are expected to face charges under Nigeria’s drug control laws. NDLEA officials reiterated their commitment to combating drug abuse and trafficking, warning that Edo State remains under close surveillance due to its strategic role in several drug distribution routes. 
The latest crackdown forms part of a broader nationwide campaign by the NDLEA aimed at reducing drug-related crimes and preventing the spread of substance abuse, particularly among young people. In recent months, the agency has intensified enforcement operations, public awareness programmes, and rehabilitation initiatives as part of efforts to address the social and security challenges associated with illicit drug use and trafficking across Nigeria.
