President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of an abducted teacher in Oyo State and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to rescuing the pupils and teachers still being held by kidnappers. In a statement released on Monday, the President said he shared the pain of families affected by the attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area, stressing that no child should ever be taken from the safety of a classroom.
Tinubu also extended his condolences to the family of the late teacher, Michael Oyedokun, who was reportedly beheaded by the kidnappers after the attack on schools in the Esiele and Yawota communities. The President described the incident as heartbreaking and assured the victim’s family that his sacrifice would not be forgotten. He pledged that security agencies would continue pursuing those responsible for the crime and bring them to justice.
According to the President, ongoing rescue operations are being conducted through intelligence-driven strategies involving security and law enforcement agencies. He said both kinetic and non-kinetic measures would be deployed to secure the safe release of all abducted victims. Tinubu emphasized that the government would use every lawful means available to ensure that the kidnapped students and teachers return home safely.
The school attack, which occurred in May, involved the abduction of several teachers and pupils from multiple schools in Oriire Local Government Area. The incident triggered nationwide outrage, protests by teachers, and renewed concerns about insecurity around educational institutions. Tinubu has repeatedly condemned the attack as barbaric and directed security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend the kidnappers and their collaborators, while calls for stronger security measures, including the creation of state police, continue to gain momentum.
