President Bola Tinubu and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday joined millions of Muslims across Nigeria to observe Eid-el-Kabir prayers in Lagos and Abuja respectively as the country marked one of Islam’s most important religious celebrations. Tinubu attended the Eid prayer session at Dodan Barracks in Lagos alongside several top political figures and Muslim faithful, while Atiku observed prayers at the AYA Mosque in Abuja. 
According to reports from the Presidency, Tinubu was accompanied by his Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Mudashiru Obasa, and Lagos Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat during the prayers in Lagos. In separate messages released for the Eid celebration, the President urged Nigerians to embrace sacrifice, patience, tolerance, and national unity, while also assuring citizens that ongoing economic reforms would eventually bring stability and prosperity to the country. 
Atiku Abubakar, who was the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, also shared photographs from the Eid prayer ground in Abuja on his social media platforms. The former vice president said the prayers were offered in gratitude to Allah for His blessings and called on Nigerians to strengthen the spirit of compassion, sacrifice, peace, and unity during the festive season. Atiku further extended Eid greetings to Muslims across Nigeria and around the world, praying for lasting peace and prosperity in the country. 
The Eid-el-Kabir celebration this year comes amid heightened political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Tinubu, Atiku, Peter Obi, and several other political figures already dominating discussions around potential presidential contests and coalition movements. Across the country, governors, traditional rulers, and religious leaders also used the Sallah period to encourage peaceful coexistence, prayers for Nigeria, and support for ongoing national security and economic recovery efforts.
