The Nigeria Democratic Congress has constituted a 20-member National Selection Committee to supervise the screening and selection of aspirants ahead of its forthcoming governorship and National Assembly primaries. The party said the move forms part of efforts to strengthen internal democracy, improve transparency, and ensure the emergence of credible candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections. 
According to a statement issued by the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the committee was approved by the party’s leadership following recommendations by the National Working Committee as preparations intensify for the primaries. The committee is expected to review reports submitted by the National Screening Committee and make final decisions on the eligibility and clearance of aspirants seeking the party’s tickets for governorship and National Assembly positions. 
The committee will reportedly be chaired by the NDC National Chairman, Moses Zuwoghe, while Enekweizu will serve as secretary. Other members include prominent political figures such as Buba Galadima, Yunusa Tanko, Udenta Udenta, Aminu Abdulsalam, Mohammed Bakin Zuwo, and Shittu Mohammed, among others. The party stated that only aspirants cleared by both the National Screening Committee and the National Selection Committee would be permitted to purchase nomination forms. 
The NDC also disclosed that where consensus arrangements fail among aspirants, direct primaries would be conducted between May 28 and May 30, 2026, in line with the party’s electoral guidelines. The development comes amid growing political activity and coalition discussions ahead of the 2027 elections, with the NDC increasingly attracting attention from opposition politicians and political stakeholders seeking alternative platforms outside the APC and PDP. Political observers say the committee’s composition reflects the party’s attempt to project inclusiveness and credibility as it positions itself for a more competitive role in national politics.
