Vice President Kashim Shettima has disclosed that some individuals once warned President Bola Tinubu against wearing traditional outfits he gave him during the 2023 presidential campaign, claiming the clothes had been spiritually manipulated to harm him. Shettima made the revelation on Tuesday while speaking at a public event, describing the allegations as one of the strange experiences that emerged during the intense political atmosphere surrounding the election period.

According to the Vice President, certain people from Borno State allegedly approached Tinubu and cautioned him against using the outfits because they believed Shettima had “charmed” the clothes. Shettima, however, dismissed the claims as baseless and said the President ignored the warnings completely. The Vice President has frequently spoken publicly about his close political relationship with Tinubu, often describing the President as modest and deeply committed to Nigeria’s development despite criticism from opponents.

The comments have generated fresh reactions online, especially amid renewed political discussions surrounding the Tinubu administration and the relationship between both leaders ahead of the 2027 elections. In recent months, speculation over possible political tensions within the APC leadership has continued to circulate, including rumours about potential changes to the party’s presidential ticket, although key party figures have repeatedly denied any serious internal crisis.

Shettima’s remarks also revived conversations about the strong religious and political sentiments that shaped the 2023 presidential election, particularly the controversy surrounding the APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket. Despite heavy criticism from religious organisations and opposition groups at the time, Tinubu proceeded with Shettima as his running mate and eventually won the election. Political analysts say the Vice President’s latest comments reflect the level of suspicion, misinformation, and political tension that often surrounds high-profile political alliances in Nigeria.
