The All Progressives Congress senatorial primaries across several states produced major political upsets and dramatic victories on Monday, as prominent politicians including former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun, former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, and former Governor Gbenga Daniel suffered setbacks while powerful incumbents and party-backed aspirants secured crucial wins ahead of the 2027 general elections. 
In Imo State, Governor Hope Uzodimma defeated Rochas Okorocha in the fiercely contested Imo West Senatorial District primary, consolidating his dominance within the APC structure in the South-East. Uzodimma reportedly secured an overwhelming victory across the 12 local government areas of Orlu Zone, while Okorocha, who previously represented the same district in the Senate, suffered a major political defeat in what observers described as another chapter in the long-running rivalry between both leaders. 
Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello also staged a strong political comeback after emerging winner of the APC senatorial primary for Kogi Central. Bello defeated Ibrahim Yakubu Adoje and Momoh Obaro with a landslide margin, strengthening speculation about his planned return to national politics after completing his tenure as governor. Political analysts noted that Bello’s victory reinforces his continued influence within the APC despite recent controversies surrounding his political career. 
In Ogun State, political alignments within the APC produced mixed fortunes for top figures in the state. While Governor Dapo Abiodun and former governor Gbenga Daniel reportedly secured victories in their respective contests, former governor Ibikunle Amosun suffered a major setback during the primaries. The developments reflect the continuing rivalry between political blocs loyal to Abiodun and Amosun, a struggle that has shaped Ogun APC politics for several years. Analysts believe the outcomes could significantly influence future power negotiations within the party ahead of the general elections. 
Across other states, several APC heavyweights, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, and Senator Ali Ndume, emerged as consensus aspirants in their districts without major opposition. However, the primaries also triggered fresh controversies in some states, especially Kaduna, where aggrieved aspirants and supporters protested alleged irregularities and demanded the cancellation of results. The wave of disputes and political realignments has further intensified preparations for what is already shaping up to be one of Nigeria’s most competitive election cycles in recent history.
