Fresh outrage has erupted across Nigeria after suspected bandits reportedly beheaded Michael Oyedokun, one of the teachers abducted during the recent attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. A disturbing video allegedly released by the kidnappers surfaced online on Sunday, showing the victim tied up and forced to speak before he was brutally killed, deepening fears over the safety of other captives still being held. 
Oyedokun was among several teachers and students kidnapped when armed men stormed schools in the Ahoro-Esinele and Yawota communities earlier this month. The attackers invaded Community High School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School during school hours, killing at least two people and abducting multiple victims before escaping into nearby forests. Security experts and local leaders have described the incident as one of the most alarming school attacks recorded in South-West Nigeria in recent years, especially as mass kidnappings had previously been more common in northern states. 
The gruesome killing triggered widespread condemnation from political leaders, religious groups, and traditional rulers across the country. The Christian Association of Nigeria described the attack as a “national disgrace,” warning that organised criminal violence was spreading dangerously into the South-West. The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, also condemned the abduction and called for urgent nationwide collaboration against kidnapping and violent crimes, while the Oluwo of Iwo urged the Federal Government to empower traditional rulers with stronger security support to help combat banditry. 
The incident has renewed concerns about worsening insecurity and the increasing vulnerability of schools across Nigeria. In recent years, several large-scale abductions targeting students and teachers have been recorded in different parts of the country, forcing authorities to intensify debates over school security and anti-kidnapping measures. Residents of the affected Oyo communities have continued demanding faster rescue operations and stronger security deployments, while security agencies say investigations and rescue efforts remain ongoing to secure the release of the remaining victims.
