The African Democratic Congress has screened more than 70 governorship aspirants ahead of its forthcoming primaries as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections. The screening exercise, held in Abuja on Monday, attracted aspirants from multiple states seeking the party’s governorship tickets amid growing interest in the ADC as a rising opposition platform. 
Among the notable aspirants screened were former Adamawa State Governor Jibrilla Bindow and ex-Delta State governorship candidate Great Ogboru, alongside dozens of other contenders from across the country. The party also announced a postponement of its presidential aspirant screening to Wednesday, with prominent political figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and banker Mohammed Hayatu-Deen expected to participate. ADC officials said the adjustment became necessary to ensure proper coordination and smooth conduct of the exercise. 
The large turnout has further highlighted the ADC’s growing national profile amid ongoing political realignments and coalition talks involving opposition figures ahead of the next election cycle. In recent months, the party has gained increased attention following speculation about possible alliances involving influential politicians from the PDP, APC, and Labour Party seeking an alternative political platform. Analysts believe the influx of aspirants could strengthen the ADC’s visibility nationwide if the party successfully manages its internal processes and leadership challenges. 
The ADC also recently announced the appointment of former Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke as chairman of its Presidential Screening Committee, while former Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed was named chairman of the Presidential Election Committee. Party spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi stated that the leadership was focused on conducting transparent primaries capable of strengthening internal democracy and positioning the ADC as a stronger force ahead of the 2027 elections.
