The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspected drug dealer and recovered 879 parcels of suspected Cannabis Sativa during a major anti-drug operation in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of the state. The operation was carried out by operatives attached to the Dawakin Tofa Police Division following credible intelligence received by the command. 
According to a statement issued on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspect identified as Umaru, also known as “Jalo,” was arrested on May 13, 2026, while allegedly offloading 18 sacks containing dried leaves suspected to be cannabis into his residence at Yan Shado village. Police operatives reportedly stormed the location during the operation and immediately apprehended the suspect. 
The police said a search conducted at the premises led to the recovery of the 18 sacks, which contained a total of 879 parcels of the suspected illicit substance. Authorities described the seizure as another significant breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking and substance abuse across Kano State. Investigations are still ongoing to identify and arrest other suspects connected to the alleged drug network. 
The Kano State Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating drug-related crimes, warning that illicit drug trafficking remains closely linked to violent crimes, youth restiveness, and organised criminal activities in many communities. Security agencies in the state have intensified anti-drug operations in recent months, with several major seizures of cannabis and other illicit substances recorded across Kano and neighbouring states.
