Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi have officially submitted their presidential nomination forms at the national secretariat of the African Democratic Congress in Abuja ahead of the 2027 general elections. The development formally confirms both politicians as leading contenders for the party’s presidential ticket. 
Atiku, who recently aligned with the ADC following political realignments within the opposition, described his ambition as part of a broader mission to rebuild Nigeria and restore economic stability. Speaking after submitting his forms, the former vice president said the country required experienced leadership capable of addressing insecurity, unemployment, and rising economic hardship. 
Amaechi also confirmed his submission in a statement shared on his social media pages, declaring that he was entering the race to “salvage Nigeria.” The former Rivers governor said his campaign would focus on restoring national unity, dignity, and prosperity, while promising reforms aimed at improving governance and strengthening public institutions. 
The submission of forms by both politicians signals the intensifying battle for opposition leadership ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Their emergence further strengthens the ADC’s position as a major platform attracting high-profile politicians seeking to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2027. Political analysts expect the ADC presidential primary to become highly competitive as coalition talks and defections continue across Nigeria’s political landscape.
