English women’s football giants Chelsea F.C. Women have confirmed that Australian striker Sam Kerr will leave the club at the end of the 2025/26 season when her contract expires, bringing an end to a hugely successful six-and-a-half-year spell at Stamford Bridge. 
Kerr departs as Chelsea’s all-time leading scorer in the Women’s Super League, having scored 64 league goals and 115 goals in 157 appearances overall for the club. During her time with the Blues, the Matildas captain helped Chelsea win five WSL titles, three FA Cups, and three League Cups, while also winning the WSL Golden Boot twice and finishing runner-up for the 2023 Ballon d’Or. 
In an emotional farewell message released by the club, Kerr thanked Chelsea supporters for what she described as “six and a half memorable years,” saying she would forever cherish the memories and success achieved with the team. Chelsea also paid tribute to the striker, describing her as one of the greatest players in the club’s history and praising her impact on women’s football in England. 
The 32-year-old forward recently returned from a long-term ACL injury that sidelined her for much of 2024 and early 2025. Despite the setback, she still managed 16 goals this season and recently became Chelsea’s highest-scoring player in WSL history after surpassing the previous club record. Reports suggest Kerr could be preparing for a return to the United States’ National Women’s Soccer League, with expansion side Denver Summit FC heavily linked with her signature.
