Former Minister of Transportation and presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress, Rotimi Amaechi, has pledged to transform Nigeria within four years if elected president in the 2027 general elections. Amaechi made the declaration on Thursday shortly after submitting his presidential nomination forms at the ADC national headquarters in Abuja. 
The former Rivers State governor criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu, blaming it for worsening economic hardship and declining living conditions across the country. According to Amaechi, Nigerians should vote based on competence, experience, and performance rather than ethnic or regional sentiments. He argued that the “Emilokan” style of politics contributed to the nation’s current challenges and insisted that leadership should be determined by merit. 
Amaechi highlighted his experience as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Governor of Rivers State from 2007 to 2015, and Minister of Transportation under former President Muhammadu Buhari. He pointed to railway and infrastructure projects executed during his tenure at the transport ministry as evidence of his ability to govern effectively. “Go back to Rivers State and see what I have done. Go back to the Ministry of Transportation and see what I have done,” he said while insisting he possesses the capacity to rebuild the country. 
He also stated that he was prepared to participate in a direct presidential primary within the ADC if a consensus arrangement did not favour him. Amaechi’s declaration comes amid increasing political realignments and coalition talks among opposition figures ahead of the 2027 elections, with several prominent politicians already positioning themselves for the presidential race.
