The Anambra State Police Command has begun an investigation into the death of an 80-year-old man, Paul Onwualu, who died following an incident linked to a traditional stool (kingship) dispute in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state. The police said the case is being treated seriously and that efforts are underway to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident. 
According to preliminary information from the police, the deceased was allegedly involved in an arrest operation connected to the ongoing kingship tussle in the community. Officers reportedly visited his residence in relation to the dispute when the incident occurred. The command stated that the operatives involved have been identified, though they are not attached to the Anambra State Police Command, raising questions about jurisdiction and coordination in the operation. 
Eyewitness accounts and family members, however, allege that the elderly man was assaulted during the attempted arrest and later collapsed while being taken to the police station. He was reportedly rushed to a hospital in Ogidi, where he was confirmed dead. The traditional stool dispute in the community is currently before a High Court, which has further heightened tensions among rival groups. 
The police have assured residents that a thorough and professional investigation is ongoing and urged the public to remain calm. The Commissioner of Police has directed that the findings be made public once established, as authorities work to determine whether misconduct or criminal actions were involved in the operation.
