Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has expressed support for fellow activist Aisha Yesufu over her decision to contest for the Federal Capital Territory senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections, though he criticised the political party she joined.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Sowore said he fully supports Yesufu’s political ambition and believes more activists and reform-minded Nigerians should actively participate in politics rather than remain on the sidelines. According to him, politics remains one of the most effective tools for changing society and influencing governance.

However, Sowore argued that Yesufu chose the “wrong party” for her senatorial ambition, saying she should have joined his political platform, the African Action Congress instead of the Nigeria Democratic Congress. Despite the criticism, he maintained that he hopes she succeeds in her political journey and wins the election.

Yesufu later responded to the comments, defending her decision to join the NDC and stating that she was “not in the wrong party.” She also suggested that Sowore should work more on expanding the appeal of his party beyond what she described as a “one-person party” if he hopes to attract more supporters and politicians.
