Members of the All Progressives Congress in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State on Monday staged a peaceful protest over what they described as deliberate attempts to disenfranchise them ahead of the 2027 general elections. The protesters accused some party leaders of refusing to issue them membership cards despite completing their registration, a development they fear could prevent them from participating in the party’s primaries. 
The aggrieved party members gathered at the APC secretariat in Ijaye, Abeokuta, carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Give Us Our Membership Cards,” “We Don’t Want Imposition,” and “Let Us Vote for Our Candidates.” Speaking during the protest, one of the demonstrators, Adesanya Akinbode, said loyal party members deserved the right to participate fully in the internal democratic process after years of supporting the APC and its leaders. 
Another protester, Idowu Rodiat, rejected what she described as growing plans to impose candidates on members ahead of the elections. According to her, party faithful should be allowed to freely choose candidates for the Senate, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly through transparent primaries rather than through arrangements by influential leaders. 
Responding to the allegations, Ogun APC Publicity Secretary Femi Nuberu denied claims that members were being intentionally denied access to their membership cards. He explained that registered members could print their cards online and that ward officials had already been assigned to assist those facing difficulties with the process. The protest adds to rising tensions within the APC in several states, where disputes over consensus candidates and direct primaries have continued to generate internal divisions ahead of the 2027 elections.
