The camp of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed speculation that his recent trip to Morocco was connected to political meetings or coalition discussions ahead of the 2027 elections. According to his aide, Phrank Shaibu, the visit was purely personal and centred around a family wedding ceremony held in Marrakech. 
Shaibu explained that Atiku travelled to Morocco to chair the wedding ceremony of Cherina and Muna Okey Ezeibe, describing the event as a celebration of “love, friendship, family, and African unity.” He stressed that there was no political agenda attached to the trip despite growing public interest in the former presidential candidate’s recent international engagements. 
According to the statement, the ceremony attracted dignitaries and close associates from different African countries, including former Burkina Faso Prime Minister Lassina Zerbo, father of the bride. Shaibu added that Atiku’s relationship with the groom’s father, Okey Ezeibe, spans many years and was rooted in longstanding personal friendship rather than political calculation. 
The clarification comes amid heightened political tension and realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with Atiku’s movements increasingly attracting scrutiny from political observers and supporters of rival parties. His media team, however, insisted that the Morocco visit should not be interpreted as part of any secret coalition-building efforts or political negotiations.
