The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, identified as Idrisu Musa, for allegedly killing his elder brother, Muhammed Haruna, and Haruna’s wife, Habiba Muhammed, in Asarara Village of Jega Local Government Area. The tragic incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Saturday while the couple were asleep in their home. 
According to police authorities, the victims were allegedly attacked with a cutlass at about 5:15 a.m. and sustained severe injuries during the assault before later dying. The spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, SP Bashir Usman, said investigators recovered “substantial and incriminating evidence” linking the suspect to the crime. 
Police further disclosed that the suspect had allegedly threatened the deceased couple with a cutlass on several occasions before the fatal attack, suggesting there may have been longstanding tension within the family. Before the arrest was announced, residents had initially believed unknown assailants carried out the killings, prompting fears and confusion within the community. 
The Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State, Umar M. Hadejia, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible prosecution. Authorities assured residents that justice would be pursued diligently as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the double murder.
