Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested a man identified simply as Goodnews for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s 16-year-old daughter in the Rukpokwu area of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. The incident reportedly occurred along Apu Road, prompting outrage within the community after the teenager’s parents formally reported the case to the police. 
According to sources familiar with the matter, officers attached to the Special Area Rumudomaya Police Division immediately launched an investigation after receiving the complaint. The victim was subsequently taken to a hospital for medical examination and treatment, while the suspect was tracked down and taken into police custody for questioning. 
The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, ASP Blessing Agabe, confirmed the arrest and stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the allegation. Police authorities have not yet released further details about the suspect or whether formal charges have been filed. 
The incident adds to growing concerns over cases of sexual violence involving minors across different parts of Nigeria, with rights groups and law enforcement agencies continuing to call for stronger protection measures and swift prosecution of offenders.
