Former Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has been appointed as a Visiting Scholar and Researcher at the African Studies Center of Boston University in the United States. The appointment was announced by the university’s African Studies Center, which described Obaseki as an experienced public sector reformer whose governance record would contribute significantly to academic discussions on African development and leadership. 
According to the university, Obaseki will use the research position to critically examine the successes and challenges of the reforms and policies implemented during his eight years as governor of Edo State between 2016 and 2024. His study is expected to focus on areas such as public sector reforms, digital governance, economic transformation, and education initiatives, including the widely recognised EdoBEST programme. 
Director of the African Studies Center, Professor Nimi Wariboko, said the former governor’s presence would enrich the institution’s academic community and help produce valuable research for African policymakers and scholars. The university added that Obaseki’s expected research work and proposed manuscript could serve as a guide for public servants across Africa involved in governance reforms and economic transformation. 
Reacting to the appointment, Obaseki described it as an honour and an opportunity for reflection, collaboration, and exchange of ideas within a globally respected academic environment. He stated that the role would allow him to document and reassess the governance strategies adopted during his administration while engaging with scholars and researchers on Africa’s development challenges and policy directions.
