The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has strongly criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over comments made during his recent media chat, describing the remarks as an “unsolicited display of political recklessness.” The party accused Wike of using the publicly funded appearance to attack respected Nigerians and deepen divisions within the PDP. 
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the Makinde-backed camp said Wike’s comments reflected “political frustration” and amounted to a national embarrassment. The faction also rejected suggestions that Wike could emerge as a “National Leader” of the PDP, insisting that no such office exists within the party’s constitution. 
The response followed Wike’s fiery media briefing in Abuja, where he accused rival PDP factions led by Makinde and former minister Tanimu Turaki of defying court rulings and attempting to create parallel party structures. Wike openly dared the faction to open an official PDP bank account or secretariat in Abuja, threatening that any “illegal” office would be sealed by the FCT Administration. 
The Makinde camp, however, maintained that ongoing PDP activities including the sale of nomination forms and preparations for party primaries and convention would continue uninterrupted despite Wike’s threats. The exchange further exposes the worsening internal crisis within the PDP, as rival blocs continue battling for influence and control ahead of the 2027 elections.
