Nigeria’s newly appointed Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has pledged to tackle the country’s recurring national grid collapses, declaring that Nigerians should hold him accountable if the problem persists. Speaking during his screening at the Senate, Tegbe promised that stabilising the national grid would be the top priority of his first 100 days in office. 
The minister-designate acknowledged that repeated grid failures have become a major setback for economic growth and public confidence in the power sector. He explained that the problem goes beyond isolated technical faults, pointing instead to deep structural weaknesses, including poor coordination within the sector, inadequate gas supply, weak enforcement of standards, and ageing transmission infrastructure. 
Tegbe also revealed plans to introduce a public performance dashboard that would allow Nigerians to monitor reforms and track progress in real time. According to him, if visible improvements are not achieved within three months, there would likely be no meaningful progress later, stressing that citizens have every right to demand results from his administration. 
Beyond grid stability, the incoming minister vowed to confront sabotage and vandalism affecting electricity infrastructure, warning that some individuals benefit from the system’s failure. He also acknowledged the sector’s worsening liquidity crisis estimated at about ₦6 trillion and promised reforms aimed at balancing market-driven electricity pricing with affordability for ordinary Nigerians.
