Gunmen have abducted a Fulani herdsman identified as Yahaya Sulaiman in Ijebu Jesa, Osun State, with the kidnappers reportedly demanding a ₦70 million ransom for his release. The incident occurred late Monday night along the Iloko–Ijebu Jesa Road in Oriade Local Government Area.
According to security sources, the attackers appeared to have specifically targeted the victim, reportedly asking residents for Sulaiman’s whereabouts before eventually identifying and whisking him away to an unknown location. Sources described him as a prominent cattle rearer and influential figure among Fulani herders in the area.
The Osun State Police Command confirmed the abduction, with spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi stating that officers responded immediately after the incident was reported. He noted that preliminary findings suggest the operation was carefully planned, as the gunmen arrived with clear knowledge of the victim’s identity and location.
Police authorities said investigations are ongoing and urged members of the public with useful information to assist security agencies in rescuing the victim. The incident adds to growing concerns over kidnapping and insecurity in parts of Osun State and surrounding South-West communities.
