Prominent activist and co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls movement, Aisha Yesufu, has officially resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), where she also declared her intention to contest for the Federal Capital Territory senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

Yesufu announced the move in a statement shared on her X account, explaining that her decision was influenced by her continued support for Peter Obi and what she described as a deeper understanding of Nigeria’s political future. She said her earlier alignment with the ADC was also tied to her support for Obi, adding that joining the NDC was a continuation of that commitment.

The activist further revealed that she would not merely join the party as a member but would actively seek elective office under its platform by contesting for the FCT Senate seat. She stated that she had completed all obligations within the ADC to ensure what she called a “clean transition,” while also appreciating party members she worked with during her time in the opposition party.

Her defection adds to the growing wave of political movements shaking the ADC following the recent exits of major opposition figures, including Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Peter Obi, both of whom have aligned with the NDC ahead of the 2027 elections. Analysts say the latest development further reflects the ongoing restructuring of Nigeria’s opposition landscape as parties reposition for the next presidential race.
