A dispute has erupted between the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and the Nigeria Police over the alleged sealing of the forum’s secretariat in Kaduna ahead of its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting. The ACF accused the police of illegally shutting down its headquarters without any court order, describing the move as unjustified and an attempt to disrupt its scheduled gathering.

In response, the Kaduna State Police Command denied sealing the facility, insisting that officers were only deployed to prevent a breakdown of law and order. Police authorities said they received intelligence that two rival factions within the ACF planned to hold meetings at the same venue and time, which could have led to clashes if not contained.

The ACF, however, rejected the explanation, maintaining that there was no credible security threat to justify such action and that its earlier meeting had been conducted peacefully. The forum also dismissed claims that its NEC meeting had been cancelled, stating that only its chairman has the constitutional authority to convene or alter such meetings.

The incident highlights deepening internal tensions within the ACF, with leadership disputes spilling into public view and prompting security intervention. It also underscores broader concerns about political and organisational stability in the North as key stakeholders prepare for important deliberations.
