Tension flared at the Federal High Court in Abuja as protesters stormed the premises to oppose an ongoing legal move seeking the deregistration of several opposition political parties. The demonstrators, under the banner of Concerned Northern Nigeria Stakeholders, marched from the National Assembly to the court, chanting slogans such as “No Opposition, No Election” and accusing the government of undermining democratic institutions. 
The group alleged that the Federal Government was interfering with both the judiciary and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), warning that weakening opposition parties could damage Nigeria’s democracy. Security operatives, including the Department of State Services, blocked access to the court complex, creating a tense standoff as protesters demanded judicial independence and political fairness. 
At the centre of the controversy is a court case backed by the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, seeking to compel INEC to deregister parties such as the African Democratic Congress, Action Peoples Party, Action Alliance, Accord Party, and Zenith Labour Party. The AGF argued that some of these parties allegedly fail to meet constitutional requirements, while protesters warned that such actions could erode public trust, deepen political divisions, and trigger unrest if not handled transparently.
